How To Spot Counterfeit Golf Clubs
Affordable Golf have over 20 years in dealing in second hand golf clubs. Due to this extensive experience we have built a reputation for offering quality genuine second hand products at attractive prices. There are many independent sellers online who sell second hand clubs, but unfortunately due to counterfeit clubs becoming more sophisticated the general public can not tell if they are the genuine product or not.
You may think you are getting a bargain from some of these independent individuals on certain sites, but although the counterfeits look very similar to the genuine article, they can often crack or break very easily and the performance is usually very disappointing.
If you are like most golfers who cannot tell the difference, it is advisable to buy from an experienced retailer. At Affordable Golf we are experts in telling the difference and that is why we are highly regarded in the 2nd hand market.
Mygolfspy.com did a random survey of 100 golf club listings on Ebay a couple of months ago and the "Golf Club Scam Alert System" devised, found that there was a high-probability that 24 of those listings were FAKES!
Here are things to look for when buying second hand clubs-
1. Serial numbers- Ask for them and check them. Most companies now have some type of serial number system. If they don’t provide this it is obvious that they are fake.
2. Photos- Ask for additional close up photos, if they don’t provide them avoid buying clubs.
3. Great deal- If its too good to be true it is. Sellers will often use the "won in a raffle" or "got as a gift" to justify the low cost.
4. Full sets- Watch out for sellers packaging woods, irons, wedges, putter, bag etc. This is usually a sign of counterfeit.
5. Magnet test- If you have the club in your hand and they claim it is titanium, stick a magnet to it. A magnet will not stick to titanium, so if it does it is fake.
6. Glue test- If there is excess glue around the ferrule and decals it might be fake. Real clubs will not have excess epoxy.
7. Lettering and paint- Check a picture on the web to compare, counterfeiters generally make mistakes when it comes to the fine details like the logo, fonts, paint colour, weight, sizes and the actual shape of the head.
8. Ferrules- That’s the little piece that goes between the head and the shaft. Many companies have special shapes to their ferrules and counterfeiters rarely match them.
9. If you have any doubt after this ensure you buy from an experienced specialist second hand retailer like ourselves.
We guarantee whether you buy new or second hand from Affordable Golf you will always receive the 100% genuine article.
